Simple tips to avoid damage
- Don't clean wooden floors with a wet mop. Too much water can cause the floor to swell, warp or turn grey.
- Don't use wax, soap or other household cleaners on wooden floors coated with finish. They can dull the floor's finish.
- Don't let sand, dirt or grit build up. They can act like sandpaper: abrading and dulling your floor finish.
- Vacuum or sweep your floors regularly. Once every week is recommended.
- Remove spills promptly using your Bona Care Mop and Bona Care Floor Cleaner.
- Place mats at exterior doors to trap sand and grit. Use rugs in high traffic pathways, at the ends of stairs and near doorways. Avoid rubber backing or non-ventilated rugs.
- Use protective pads or caps on furniture.
- Trim your pet's claws. Proper claw trimming helps avoid scratches and gouges.
Three Steps to a Clean floor
Preferably, you want to keep the original surface, the highly durable UV top coat, for as long as possible. It is the first and most important protection of a pre-finished wooden floor. But in time it is only natural that a wooden floor starts showing signs of wear. Our way of thinking when it comes to floor maintenance and care comprises three different levels. All depending on what part of the wooden floor life cycle your floor is in.
Step One
Step one is about floor care. This process is designed to be as easy as normal cleaning of the floor and can be done over and over again, to keep the floor looking great for many years. It consists of a number measures for preventive as well as daily and periodic care.
Step Two
Step two mainly deals with the renovation of the floor. It comprises a combined chemical preparation and a light abrasion removing any micro scratches and enabling recoating of the floor. The result is a surface as good as new. After that, the surface is thoroughly prepared and conditioned with the Bona Prep system, followed by a suitable product for recoating, for example Bona Traffic.
Step Three
Step three applies if and when a floor is badly worn and an recoating no longer is possible. Then the floor has to be sanded down to bare wood and coated, using any of Bona's finishes suitable for that particular floor.
